Proctor's Roofshield was developed in Scotland to address the breather membrane needs of building envelope construction. Roofshield is a 3-ply spun bonded polypropylene fabric that is used as a breathing underlayment for roof systems. It is UV stabilised, rot proof and tear resistant. The Roofshield breathable roof underlay offers the added benefit of enabling the roof cavity to naturally release vapour before condensation forms within the roof space of the building envelope. Unlike foil products, Proctor's Roofshield, due to its high vapour permeability lets the building breathe. In temperate climates this permits vapour to escape without reaching dew point, thus preventing condensation and related problems such as mould, swelling, distortion and rotting of timber, corrosion, and loss of thermal insulation performance. All Proctor Roofshield and ProctorWrap breathable (vapour permeable) membranes have a vapour resistance of not more than 0.5 MNs/g when tested to AS/NZS 4200.1. The subject of mould and mildew is of great importance and concern in the construction industry today. The concept of "sick buildings" is a term that all designers and building owners are aware of and are trying to prevent. Products which do not allow your building to breathe adequately may actually be trapping moisture, which is one of the primary requirements for mould formation.
Roofshield is classified as light duty in accordance with the value specified for bursting strength. When used as a Vapour Permeable Underlay in roof applications additional safety measures should be taken such as a supporting substrate or a safety net/mesh deemed acceptable to OH&S authorities.
