Proctor Roofshield was developed in
Europe to address the breather membrane needs of building envelope construction. Roofshield is a patented 3-ply spun bonded polypropylene fabric that is used as a breathing underlayment for roof systems. It is U.V. stabilised, rot proof and tear resistant.

Prevention of water migration into the building is the primary function of the roof construction and external cladding. A roof underlay acts as a secondary drainage layer under the roofing material to provide added protection from the ingress of water into the roof space. The Roofshield breathable roof underlay offers the added benefit of enabling the roof cavity to naturally release vapour before condensation forms within the roof space of the building envelope.

Long Term Condensation Control

The concept of a weather resistant barrier may not be new in the construction industry. However, unlike foil products, Proctor’s Roofshield, due to high vapour permeability lets the building breathe. In temperate climates this permits vapour to escape without reaching dew point, thus preventing condensation and related problems such as mould, swelling, distortion and rotting of timber, corrosion, and loss off thermal insulation performance.

The concept of “sick buildings” is a term that all designers and building owners are aware of and are trying to prevent. Products which do not allow your building to breathe adequately may actually be trapping moisture, which is one of the primary requirements for mould formation.
